About Syria Wire
Syria news, monitored daily
What is Syria Wire?
Syria Wire is an English-language news aggregator dedicated to Syria. It monitors, filters, and curates news from established sources β updated hourly, seven days a week.
Syria Wire is not a news outlet. It does not produce original reporting. Its role is to surface relevant Syria coverage from trusted sources in one place.
Sources
Articles are drawn from the following sources via their public RSS feeds. Sources with institutional ties to the Syrian government are labelled β their coverage is included for completeness and clearly attributed, like every other source on the site.
- Syria Direct
- Enab Baladi
- The Guardian
- Al-Monitor
- ReliefWeb
- France 24
- The New Arab
- Middle East Eye
- Al Jazeera
- SANAState news agency
- Levant24Government-aligned
Methodology
Filtering. Each article is evaluated for Syria relevance using a curated list of keywords (place names, factions, political figures). Generic terms are excluded to prevent false positives.
Deduplication. Articles covering the same event across multiple sources are consolidated into a single entry using title similarity scoring (Jaccard index). Duplicate sources are surfaced as "Also reported by" β transparency over noise reduction.
Categorisation. Articles are automatically assigned to one of five categories (Politics, Humanitarian, Economy, Security, Reconstruction) based on keyword scoring.
Refresh rate. The feed revalidates every hour. No content is cached for more than 60 minutes.
Beyond the news feed
Situation. A dashboard of key post-Assad indicators pulled hourly from primary sources: UNHCR (displacement and returns), OCHA Financial Tracking Service (humanitarian funding), the World Bank (economy) and IODA (internet connectivity). No editorial estimates β only figures published by those institutions.
Syria in data. One page per indicator, with the full series, the exact source, and the limitations of each dataset stated alongside the numbers.
